Design and construction of pedestrian bridges
VDS team developed design documentation and produced a decorative openwork envelop of the bicycle-pedestrian bridge “Atyrau Kopіrі” over Esil River in the area of the Central Park of Astana.

VDS specialists found innovative ways to put the designer idea into practice. They manufactured the enclosure structure and the futuristic openwork envelop of the bridge, which is the supporting framework and decorative steelwork consisting of more than 3,000 elements-“petals”, unique in shape and size. When viewed from the side, the decorative envelop reminds fish scales; inside, in the bicycle-pedestrian zone, with sunlight, it creates an unusual pattern, a unique play of light and shadow.

In total, more than 15,000 elements were used in the manufacturing process of the bridge envelop and the enclosure structure, each of them has no repeat. VDS specialists cut and bent each element separately, using the high-tech robotic centers located at the VDS Plant. Each part was hot galvanized, phosphatized, painted with urethane special enamels for maximum anticorrosive protection. The construction weights more than 150 tons. It was designed and installed according to the regional weather conditions, including wind load. The installation was carried out in compliance with all safety measures.
The bridge is shaped like a fish, a symbol of the Atyrau region (a gift from the Atyrau region to the 20th anniversary of the capital of Kazakhstan). The sketch was developed by Askhat Saduov, an architect from Astana.
The total length of the bicycle-pedestrian bridge “Atyrau Kopіrі” is 313.5 m, width is 10.5 m (the width reaches 17 m in some places), and weight is 1,920 tons.
VDS Group took part in a project by the invitation and in close cooperation with BI Engineering, a member of the BI Group holding. VDS team completed its part of the project within the agreed timescale: all works, including design, engineering, development work, production, logistics and installation, took a little over 100 days.
